Hi everyone

I had a brilliant weekend in Bristol this past weekend (July 26th/27th), representing the Lakota People at a Festival for Indigenous Peoples, organized by my good friend Linda Fews. Linda has a website if anyone would like to look it over for future events - www.indigenouscultures.com/bips.htm

The weekend was a huge success I felt and everyone had a lot of fun. I gave a talk at the conference held on the Sat, as did several other people, which was filmed to be shown at the Geneva conference represented by an organization called UNPO - Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation. UNPO is an international organization created by nations and peoples around the world, who are not represented as such in the world's principal international organizations, such as the United Nations. It was founded in 1991 and today consists of over 50 members who represent over 100 million persons.

UNPOUNPO offers an international forum for occupied nations, indigenous peoples, minorities and even oppressed majorities who currently struggle to regain their lost countries, preserve their cultural identities, protect their basic human rights and safeguard the natural environment

Representatives for the festival were from New Guinea, Australia, Cambodia, Africa , Chile and of course myself, and a drumming, singing event was held sat evening from all the cultures, which was just amazing!!!

I looked after a family of Mapuche Chilean Indians all over the weekend, and although they did not speak English, nor me Spanish or French, we got by with a lot of sign language and gestures and lots of arm waving ! Just goes to show how you can communicate without the use of spoken language if you have too!

I wish also in this newsletter to once again send out an URGENT APPEAL for donations for Propane Fuel for the Lakota People.

I have 12 families on my list so far, that I managed to provide Propane for to get them through last winter, and the word is getting around that this mad English woman keeps coming over to the Reservation trying to help them out as best I can. So as you can see, the list is going to keep growing and growing!

I am hoping to go back to the Reservation in early September to start filling Propane Tanks before the winter sets in, which it usually does with a vengeance at the beginning of October, sometimes earlier, so please dig deep folks, this Propane fuel really is the difference between life and death for these people.

Another thing that I would to ask , is for prayers and thoughts for Emmett American Horse and his family. Emmett is a grandson of Chief American Horse, that fought beside Chief Crazy Horse.

Emmett American HorseTragically, Emmett's 14 year old Granddaughter , Ashley, was tragically killed in a car accident a few days ago. Any thoughts for the family would be greatly appreciated. I know Emmett and 2 of his brothers, Joe and Vern, and also met his granddaughter last year, so it is a very sad time for the American Horse family. Vern lost his dear wife of many years only a few short months ago, so the family have suffered greatly this year. My heart goes out to them. I provided Propane for the brothers last year, so as you can see, any help for them this winter will be more than appreciated, as it will be for the other Elders and their families on my list.

I will keep you all posted as to events as they happen, and thank you so much to all that have either donated or fundraised to try and help these wonderful Lakota People. I love them all dearly and will try and help them as much as I can for the rest of my life.

Bless you all for caring and for your kindness.

Speak to you again soon

Best Wishes

Brenda
