Lakota Aid News letter
Volume 2 Issue 10

 Hi Everyone.

Just to update you on the appeal for propane in the last newsletters.

Thank you so much to all of you that donated and so swiftly.

Sophie Catches - one of many that needs our help

What with the Tsunami appeals, plus Live Aid and now Comic Relief, smaller charities like myself get drastically neglected! Again, because of the lack of awareness that relates to the Native America peoples, they are never mentioned, so thank you to everyone that still supports this cause.

Again, I am appealing for funds for propane fuel. The winter in South Dakota is still not over (as we are still realizing over here in the UK), and people are calling in via the contact system that has been successfully set up between myself and the Lakota people.

Funds are always desperately needed for propane, and I have now managed to get about 25 Elders and their families through this winter so far, with several propane fills. It does not sound a lot, but when you take into consideration that propane fuel has shot up by a third or so since the war situation in the US, it is a real struggle for me, let alone the people, to buy propane.

Delivery of propane tanks from Westco

Apart from Westco propane company, I have a very good relationship built up also with a Tribal propane company, so am expanding my horizons in that field. There are some areas that the Tribal company do not go because of distance, and Westco usually save the day for me there. The people that live in the real remote areas of the Rez have a very hard time just trying to survive generally, and if they cannot get propane either, live is very hard indeed!!

Please once again, spread the word that Propane is still desperately needed out on the Reservation, and that help is always needed on a regular basis.

I will be moving address again soon unfortunately!! The street where I live is being flattened for re-development, so I am on the move again!!

My e-mail and phone numbers will stay the same, and I will have a mail re-direction put in place when I move, so nothing will go astray, and details will be updated on the website also.

Again, I cannot thank everyone enough for all their help in the past and continuing help from a lot of people still.

I still do not know when the documentary film will be hitting the circuit, but I will keep everyone informed of details.

Up to present, I have not immediate plans to go to the Rez. I have to get my move sorted and money is tight, but having said that, I made no plans for last year and ended up going 3 times, so who knows what the future holds!!!!

Take care everyone, and please, please spread the word that donations for propane are still desperately needed ok?
